The figure in Sciascia's Carpet
P. 175-180
Since the time of the Ancient Greek philosophers and tragedians, the language of enigma and paradox has been connected to the question of power. Leonardo Sciascia is no exception, being the heir and interpreterof both traditions. This essay examines two novels, The Disappearance of Majorana and The Moro Affair, which form a double-composed picture showing how the writer's language can illuminate the truth to glimpse its darker essence. This paper was presented at the 12th Leonardo Sciascia Colloquium held in Rome on the 7th and 8th of October 2021. [Publisher's text]
