"In cammino per un mondo nuovo" : la marcia Perugia-Assisi e il nuovo (dis)ordine internazionale (1990-1999)

A prominent figure in extra-parliamentary, ecological, and pacifist movements in both Italy and internationally from the 1970s to the 1990s, regional councilor in Trentino-Alto Adige, and member of the European Parliament from 1989 until his death on July 3, 1995, Alexander (known as Alex) Langer holds a significant and unique place in Italian political history. While public discourse has primarily identified Langer with his mediation efforts during the war in former Yugoslavia, he was also actively involved in peace mobilizations in other contexts. Among these, his role in the peace process within the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was particularly important. This essay aims to offer an initial reflection on Langer's interpretation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict its origins and developments up to the early 1990s while paving the way for a broader analysis of networks of individuals, associations, and peace movements. Through the study of public interventions and printed sources, the essay proposes some

preliminary considerations on the history of political cultures, European activism, and nonviolent forms of mediation and interposition that intersect across Italy, Europe, Israel, and Palestine. [Publisher's Text]
