The paper deals with the role that history of philosophy plays in teaching philosophy to children. Once having criticized the dichotomy philosophy/history of philosophy, the author argues the necessity and validity to include history of philosophy in the philosophical practice with children. Since both philosophers and children belong to historical tradition, they have to make clear such a genesis and focus on it during their philosophical discussions. In the final part of the paper, the author reflects on the requirement of having an educational path in philosophy to talk about philosophy with children. One's own philosophical experience constitutes the necessary ground to teach philosophy and transmit its conceptual and historical core to children. [Publisher's text].
