Uno dei testi più intensi di Cesare Zavattini compare nell'aprile del 1954 su “Cinema Nuovo” e racconta la sua visita a Casa Cervi. Zavattini è travolto dal formarsi del mito dei sette fratelli e dalle figure del padre Alcide, delle vedove e degli orfani. La storia dei sette contadini rappresenta un'occasione unica per un film davvero popolare, ispirato all'umanismo neorealista e alla narrazione contesa che negli anni Cinquanta andava costruendosi attorno alla Resistenza. Tuttavia, questo saggio spiega perché negli anni Cinquanta non è possibile fare un lungometraggio sui Cervi, restituendo la complessa rete di ostacoli politici e culturali attorno a quel progetto, che si sarebbe infine realizzato solo quattordici anni dopo. One of the most intense literary texts by Cesare Zavattini appeared in April 1954 on “Cinema Nuovo”, narrating his visit to Casa Cervi. Zavattini is overwhelmed with the rising myth of the seven brothers and with their father Alcide, their widows and their orphans. The story of the seven farmers could represent a very good chance for a popular movie inspired by the neorealistic humanism and by the highly discussed 1950s narration of the Resistance. However, this essai explains why during the 1950s it is impossible, reconstructing a very complex network of political and cultural obstacles around the movie on the Cervi bros. which will be realized, as a feature film, only fourteen years later.
