Tra le filigrane del Cantico di frate Sole : il modello del Credo niceno-costantinopolitano

Una fra le questioni esegetiche più controverse relative al Cantico di fate Sole di Francesco d'Assisi è il dubbio circa la sua omogeneità strutturale e concettuale, messa in dubbio da discontinuità che hanno suggerito l'ipotesi, proposta da alcune legendae, di una sua composizione a più riprese, in differenti occasioni. Gli scripta di Francesco testimoniano tuttavia la lunga ruminatio, da parte dell'Assisiate, del Credo niceno-costantinopolitano e, in particolare, la profonda interiorizzazione della sua sequenza concettuale, che conduce dalla contemplazione del Padre onnipotente in cielo alla sua manifestazione sapienziale-creaturale nella Luce del Figlio, alla sua discesa nel grembo di Maria, alla passione e morte in croce, alla resurrezione e ascensione al cielo, sedendo regalmente alla destra del Padre.

Il saggio rintraccia, nel Cantico, questa precisa sequenza meditativa, confermata anche da una sua lettura "intertestuale interna", ovvero dalla decodificazione delle parole del Cantico entro il vocabolario costituito dall'insieme degli scritti sanfrancescani. L'ipotesto del Credo liturgico, quale memoria remota, si offre dunque a giustificare una struttura che è parsa a più di un lettore sorprendente, avvalorando la tesi della sua coerenza premeditata. One of the most controversial exegetical questions concerning Francis of Assisi's Cantico di frate Sole is the doubt about its structural and conceptual homogeneity, questioned by discontinuities that have suggested the hypothesis, proposed by some legendae, of its composition in several stages, on different occasions. Francis's scripta, however, testify to the long ruminatio, by the Saint, of the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed and, in particular, the profound interiorization of its conceptual sequence, which leads from the contemplation of the almighty Father in heaven to his sapiential-creature manifestation in the Light of the Son, to his descent into Mary's womb, to his passion and death on the cross, to his resurrection and ascension to heaven, sitting regally at the right hand of the Father.

The essay traces, in the Cantico, this precise meditative sequence, also confirmed by an "internal intertextual" reading, or by the decoding of the words of the Cantico within the vocabulary constituted by the whole of the Saint Franciscan writings. The hypotext of the liturgical Creed, as a remote memory, therefore offers to justify a structure that has seemed surprising to more than one reader, supporting the thesis of his premeditated coherence.
