Il velo androcentrico : maschio e femmina tra natura e propaganda

Velo androcentrico è il termine utilizzato da Bruno Bettelheim a indicare quell'atteggiamento universalmente diffuso che tende a considerare di valore le sole attività e vicende maschili, e a offuscare il ruolo del femminile nella storia dell'umanità.Alla luce delle osservazioni di Bettelheim sul ruolo della psicoanalisi, in questo lavoro si intende esaminare quale sia la rappresentazione della relazione maschio/femmina a cui si fa solitamente riferimento. Lo stesso Freud ha ripetutamente auspicato che la biologia in particolare e, più in generale, la ricerca scientifica potesse permettere di fare luce sulle componenti fisiologiche dei processi mentali. Egli sosteneva che poiché non era possibile parlare scientificamente dei sentimenti, pur tentando di descriverne "gli indizi fisiologici", per il momento non si potesse «far altro che attenersi al contenuto rappresentativo che più immediatamente risulta associato al sentimento» (Freud, 1929, p. 558).

Le recenti acquisizioni della ricerca scientifica hanno permesso ora di soddisfare, nel suo senso originario, quell'interesse di Freud per la neurologia. Inoltre, seguendo la via indicata da Freud nell'indagare le vicende umane, si farà riferimento alle rappresentazioni dei sentimenti umani presenti nella grande letteratura. [Testo dell'editore].

The term "androcentric veil" was used by Bruno Bettelheim to indicate that universally widespread attitude whereby only the deeds and affairs of men are considered to be of value, and the role of women in human history is obscured. In the light of Bettelheim's observations on the role of psychoanalysis, this paper examines the customary representation of the male/female relationship. Freud himself repeatedly expressed the wish that scientific research and biology in particular - could shed light on the physiological components of mental processes. Convinced that it was not possible to speak scientifically about feelings, but merely to attempt to describe their "physiological clues", he argued that it was impossible, for the time being, to do anything but describe the representative content most immediately associated to the feeling (Freud, 1929, p. 558).

The latest findings of scientific research have now enabled Freud's interest in neurology, in its original sense, to be satisfied. Furthermore, following the path indicated by Freud in his investigations of human affairs, we will make reference to the representations of human feelings present in great literature.
