Ripensare la democrazia a partire dalla strada : prossimità, cura e spazio pubblico in Jane Addams

2022 - Franco Angeli

P. 62-76

This paper addresses Addams' relevance and possible interlocutions with recent feminist, transfeminist, and queer theories and movements. It aims to focus on Addams' contributions beyond myths and overwritings, as a guide towards new views and practices of public space, and new ways to intend knowledge. Namely, it focuses on the interweaving between politics and urban spaces, highlighting how the Hull House experience and Addams' reflections are precious in order to detect the link among spaces, relationships, and subjectivities, and to rethink dichotomies and exclusions marking contemporary public spaces. As such, Addams' reflection lead us both to redesign the gender/citizenship issue and to an understanding of contemporary democracies from a radical, situated, gendered, and embodied point of view.
