Archimedes' Präsenz in Vitruvs De architectura : Diskursformen, Leerstellen und ein Ausblick auf Cesare Cesariano
P. 107-120
The brilliant mathematician and physicist Archime des of Syracuse plays a prominent role in Vitruvius' De architectura in several respects. This article attempts for the first time to systematically grasp the explicit references to Archimedes as well as striking implicit associations by elaborating on three levels of discourse, which are defined both in terms of content and form, and to interpret them within their context. The appendix intends to show how liberally Archimedes was interpreted in an influential illustration featuring in the first printed translation of Vitruvius' De architectura (Cesare Cesariano, 1521).
