Mercato editoriale e censura fascista
149-154 p.
In his book Il censore e l'editore Giorgio Fabre analyses, using a wide array of documents, the birth of Fascist censorship. This is a phenomenon which emerged in a disorganised and secret manner, but in which a racist motivation was clearly apparent. The most significant impact on book production occurred with Mondadori, the largest Italian publisher which aimed to publish many translations and texts of American literature, whose content was frequently in conflict with the ethical and political values elaborated and defended by Fascism. This conflict put politics and the laws of the market in opposition and can not be interpreted, as Fabre does, as a deliberate attempt by Mondadori to take on Mussolini's xenophobic and clerical Italy.
