British and Indian university websites : a corpus-based study of the about page

2013 - Tangram Edizioni Scientifiche

186 p.

British and Indian University Websites explores how British and Indian universities construe their institutional identity on the Web. It focuses on the 'About' page, the website page which provides a brief overview of the characteristics and goals of the university. The book adopts a corpus-based approach to analyze the 'same' words from both the British and the Indian subcorpus. The results suggest that meanings unfold along different routes, depending not only on the local contexts in which they are embedded, but also on the way universities position themselves in relation to the macro sociological and economic contexts of globalization, knowledge based economy, and web space of communication.
