Fuori fondo : un manoscritto Urbinate fra i Vaticani latini

2021 - L'Erma di Bretschneider

P. 141-150

Out of Collection: An Urbinate Manuscript among the Vaticani LatiniThe manuscript 2228, now in the Vatican Latin collection of the Vatican Library, is actually Urbinate. There is no possibility of doubt about its origin: the codex shows sure enough the peculiar facies that distinguishes the majority of the volumes in Federico da Montefeltroʼs library and therefore makes them very recognisable. As elsewhere, also in this case the opening is emphasized by the diptych ‘antiporta/incipit page', while at the bas de page of f. 1r is visible the Montefeltro's family bendy coat of arms. The manuscript contains part of Giovanni Bianchini's astronomical treatises; he was an official at the Este court of Ferrara, from the Thirties of the Fifteenth century, and esteemed astronomy scholar. From the material aspects and through the tools of the history of art, an attempt is made to reconstruct the events that involved the Vat. lat. 2228, to ideally relocate it within the Montefeltro's collection.
