La filosofia della storia nel primo Gentile

Tra il 1934 e il 1942 Gentile lavora al progetto di una Filosofia della storia: restano i manoscritti di quest'opera incompiuta, le cui parti introduttive furono anticipate nel 1937 sul «Giornale critico». Discusso a lungo in una nutrita, ma disomogenea serie di testi giovanili, sullo sfondo del confronto teorico con Croce e Labriola, il rapporto tra storia 'pura' (storiografia) ed elaborazione filosofica è progressivamente messo in parentesi tra il 1903 e il 1908: riemergerà negli anni Trenta in problematico rapporto col 'sistema'. Between 1934 and 1942 Gentile works on a unaccomplished work, the Filosofia della storia: the introductory parts of this text were published in 1937 in the «Giornale critico». The relation between 'pure' history (historiography) and philosophical elaboration, which was at the center of a large and uneven series of early writings, related to his debate with Croce and Labriola, was progressively abandoned between 1903 and 1908: it will problematically reappear in the 1930s.
