Includes bibliographical references and index.

One of the best-known master inlayers of 16th-century Italy, the Dominican converso Fra Damiano Zambelli (Bergamo, c. 1480-Bologna, 1549) was one of the last exponents of the flourishing Renaissance tradition of wooden inlay. This volume presents the first monographic survey of his artistic production, with particular emphasis on his Bolognese period, which after his beginnings in his native Lombardy constituted the most exciting and intense moment of the friar's career. He found himself operating more than ever “at the crossroads of the arts,” in a continuous mutual exchange with other artistic disciplines and their representatives, executing masterpieces that achieved an early international fortune.
