Thasos. Metropole et colonies : Actes du symposion international a la memoire de Marina Sgourou, Thasos, 21-22 septembre 2006
450 p.
Originating in a conference given in memory of Marina Sgourou and organized by the 18th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities and the French School at Athens, the present volume brings together twenty-four articles on Thasos and its colonies. After situating the evolution of Thasos's landscape from the Neolithic period onwards, two articles explore the socio-political and military context that prevailed on Paros, from the end of the 8th century, and on Thasos during the Parian colonization, using the figure of Archilochus as a key reference point. These articles are followed by others on topics ranging from topography and architecture, to ceramics and figurines, to sculpture, numismatics and epigraphy. Each contribution blends general overviews with detailed excavation findings or previously unpublished material, making this volume a crucial reference text in studies on Thasos and its peraia.
