Una aggiunta al Maestro del codice di san Giorgio
P. 75-84
A New Manuscript for the Master of St. George CodexCataloguing collections held in libraries and archives are often an opportunity to discover manuscripts previously unknown in the literature, yet of undoubted value and of great interest. This is the case of the manuscript presented herein, an Evangelistary kept at the National Library of Naples ʻVittorio Emanuele IIIʼ (ms. VI.G.12) but coming from the Neapolitan convent of Santa Caterina in Formello. It was illuminated by the anonymous painter and illuminator called ʻMaster of St. George Codexʼ, as revealed by historiated, decorated and pen-flourished initials. The Naples manuscript can be fully included among the products that the artist painted during his stay in Avignon, in the third decade of the 14th century. [Publisher's text]
