Germana Ernst, 1943-2016
113-129 p.
Germana Ernst passed away in July 2016. She devoted most of her work to the study of Tommaso Campanella, basing the interpretation of his philosophical system on the attentive philological reconstruction of a large number of edited and inedited works, among them the vernacular manuscript of the Atheismus triumphatus, that she managed to find in a lost codex of the Vatican Library. Among her others important achievements, she also realized a new edition of Campanella's correspondence, following the project of Luigi Firpo. Focussing on Campanella's natural, ethical, political thought, Germana Ernst managed to cast new light on the intellectual history of the late Renaissance, also examining in depth the impact of astrology and magic on the Renaissance world.
