Il bollo laterizio CAPMATA a Naxos di Sicilia e altri bolli laterizi di Naxos-Tauromenion

2023 - Leo S. Olschki

P. 449-466

Numerous stamped bricks originate from Tauromenion and Naxos, and have already been the subject of an extensive publication (Muscolino 2012). In the present work, a number of subsequently identified stamps are added, and an interpretation of a previously reported stamp is proposed. The word CAPMATA is, in fact, interpreted as the Doric genitive of an anthroponym Σαρμάτας, probably the name of the producer. There are also new attestations of the stamps δαμοσία and Διονυσίου and of the stamp with triskeles. A stamp on an amphora and on bricks from Fiumefreddo di Sicilia and Calatabiano are further examples of the same stamps or of the same names on bricks and amphorae/containers, confirming the variety of products referable to the same producer, while the stamp Ἱππίκων from Scif ì (Forza d'Agrò) can be interpreted as an attestation of a rare anthroponym.
