Festivals, with their rituality and their appeal to the party, reproduce the local knowledge, history and traditions of a community and are an expression of the intangible cultural heritage and social structures. Festivals can also be places for the regeneration of social cohesion. Starting from the survey conducted by the Film Commission of the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Department of Arts of Bologna in 2019 on the audience of film festivals in the region, the article analyses the choices of use by spectators and describes their social areas, also in the light of post-pandemic challenges.
