The essay deals with a generational conflict within the DEFA cinema based on two films, shot respectively by Martin Hellberg (Emilia Galotti) and Gerhard Klein/Wolfgang Kohlhaase (Berlin Ecke-Schönhauser..). After some general considerations, the focus is on a sharp interpretation of the two texts, trying to highlight the main thematic and stylistic differences in comparison to the cinematographic (aesthetic) paradigm.
