Sulla libertà delle donne

2017 - Franco Angeli

11-21 p.

The affirmation of the rights in the 1776 and 1789 Declarations favoured the emergence of two important issues, which fuelled and animated the public and legal debate of the following years and became, in turn, claims of capital importance for the construction of the upcoming societies and political communities: the abolition of slavery and the end of women's upheaval. In both cases, the central knot was the recognition of the fundamental rights' ownership (starting with those of liberty) for both slaves and women. Nevertheless, although born together, the two claims of liberty were 'separated at birth' for 'gender reasons'. [Publisher's Text].
