The essay reconstructs the role and action played by British Labor movement in Europe from the start of the debate on Britain's entry into the Eec in the 1960s to the Maastricht Treaty. Taking into account the British peculiarity in relation to the European integration process, the essay firstly analyses the relationship between the Labor movement and Europe from the signing of the Treaties of Rome to Britain's entry into the Eec in the 1970s; secondly, the essay observes the role played by the Tuc in the process of building the European Trade Union Confederation and its evolution; finally, it delves into the regaining in the 1980s of a political space for action for the Tuc in Delors' social Europe, after the marginalization imposed by Thatcher.
