"Fridays for Future" e partecipazione adolescenziale alla vita pubblica

2021 - Franco Angeli

143-162 p.

Recognizing minors' right to participation, as expressed within the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, allows acknowledging them as subjects holding their own opinions and able to change their status from passive beings into active agents. By recognizing them as such, the present contribution will propose a new interpretation of their participation in the democratic life, by exploring different participation styles enacted by this generation. This article will pursue a double goal: it will explore adolescents' participation in the new environmentalist movement at national level, while highlighting the difficulties expressed by the institutional system in recognizing and embracing these new forms of adolescents' and youth political participation. The connection with the Fridays for Future movement raises issues related to the principle of responsibility towards the future generations in terms of intergenerational justice. [Publisher's text].
