La "coperta" delle Americhe : gli inizi della repubblica a Cuba
405-442 p.
The article analyzes the general tendencies of Cuban historiography referring to the different discussions that the first Cuban presidential election caused in the first two decades of the last century. Two main aspects, involved in the explanation of the idea of citizenship and the establishment of the republic, have been taken into consideration, from May 1902 when the Cuban historiography started to pay attention to the topic. The former refers to the hegemonic condition, the expansionist impulse and the American interest in the island. The latter aspect focuses on the efforts of the social and Cuban politicians to obtain the independence and take the first steps in building their national identity. The historiography journey makes a balance about the main ideological and political influences of the press notes carried out in Cuba around the coming Republic. [Publisher's text].
