Il governo Prodi e l'ingresso italiano nella moneta unica : tra difficoltà interne e sfida Europea (1995-1998)
68-95 p.
This essay aims to reconstruct Italy's political process towards the single currency between 1995 and 1998. Through a large use of unpublished primary sources (starting with the archival collection documenting Romano Prodi's political career) the contribution analyzes the connection between the internal dimension and Italy's international positioning in a context of important acceleration of the European integration process. Focusing on the activity of the main protagonist of this political phase, Romano Prodi, the authors reconstruct the main stages of the Prodi I Cabinet, from the electoral campaign conducted at the head of Italy's centre-left Ulivo coalition in view of the 1996 general elections up to the decision of the European Council of May 1998, which sanctioned Italy's entry into the European Monetary Union.
