74 p.
Includes bibliographical references.
This volume aims at synthesizing the insights that years of academic research have produced with respect to how firms can leverage innovation to create value for society and for themselves. In this volume, we specifically focus our attention on three streams of work. First, we discuss how innovators create value not only for themselves but also for society as a whole by focusing on the concept of knowledge spillovers. Second, we discuss how firms can profit from innovation not only by embodying their ideas in new products sold in the downstream market, but also by selling their technologies in technology markets.
Finally, we discuss the case of innovation collaborations and how their members can manage the tension between contributing to the creation of joint value and competing to appropriate a disproportionate amount of the value created. We hope our readers will appreciate the insights we have gathered together and use this volume as a starting point to dig deeper into different aspects of academic research [Publisher's text].
