This essay, presented at the 12th Leonardo Sciascia Colloquium held in Rome on the 7th and 8th of October 2021, traces the theme of the graphic dimension of writing in the novels of Manzoni, Sciascia and Levi. Taking a reference to a novel by Andrea Zanzotto as a starting point, this essay seeks to show how the physical trace left by a writer on any tangible medium canin it self become a testimony before History.
