We all use money. However, we are all too reluctant to speak of the meaning, the value, the contradictions and the risks involved in the use of money in our everyday lives. Thus, focusing on money in theological terms is as a challenge, not least because we have to cover ground that has not been much studied yet by theology despite the contribution already made by thinkers such as Michael Novak and John Milbank. These pages consider the construction of a biblical "phenomenology" of money and wealth in order to indicate the religious uselessness of money or, rather, the fact that God cannot be used and, in order to summarise the economic uselessness of God, namely his gratuity.
